Justice Andrea Westerfeld graduated from Wells College in Aurora, New York with a degree in International Studies in 2000. She received her juris doctorate from Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology, in 2003. Then she came home to Texas and began two decades of service as an appellate prosecutor. She served at the Collin County Criminal District Attorney’s Office from 2003 through 2017, briefly as a misdemeanor trial attorney before transitioning into appellate practice.  Justice Westerfeld moved to the Ellis County & District Attorney’s Office in late 2017 and served as sole appellate attorney and later chief of the appellate division until 2026. Governor Abbot appointed Justice Andrea Westerfeld to the Tenth Court of Appeals in October 2026.

Justice Westerfeld is Board Certified in Criminal Appellate Law and a member of the State Bar College. She has been a frequent writer and presenter for the State Bar, the Texas District & County Attorneys Association, the Texas Law Enforcement Records Association, and numerous other groups throughout the state. Her book Expunction & Nondisclosure reached its 9th edition in 2026. She also serves on the State Bar’s CLE Committee, the Criminal Appellate Law Advisory Commission, and planning committees for numerous CLEs.

Justice Westerfeld is a seventh-generation Texan originally from McLennan County but has chosen to call Ellis County home for nearly a decade. She and her husband, Patrick Haughton, live in Midlothian.
