Legal Practice

Justice Laura A. W. Pratt was appointed to the Seventh Court of Appeals on March 13, 2026.

Prior to joining the Court, Justice Pratt worked in private practice, where her work focused on business and commercial litigation. Her extensive litigation experience spans federal and state courts, as well as appellate practice. Additionally, she has handled a variety of administrative and regulatory matters before state and federal agencies. Justice Pratt began her legal career at the City of Lubbock Attorney's Office, where she practiced municipal law and served as a municipal prosecutor. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, all Texas courts, and all New Mexico courts.

Education

She earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Texas Tech University School of Law. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, with a biochemistry concentration and a minor in Business Management, from the University of Arkansas.

Professional Activities

Throughout her career, Justice Pratt has been deeply committed to public service and the legal profession. Having served in many different roles in the past, she currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Texas Bar Foundation, is a member of the Litigation Council for the Litigation Section of the State Bar of Texas and serves as Treasurer for the Lubbock Area Bar Association. She is also a member of the Amarillo Area Bar Association.
