CLR Connect Discovery Portal
In June 2026, Texas DPS released three overview videos highlighting the Texas CLR Connect discovery portal. These videos provide an early look at the portal application interface and demonstrate several of the core workflows users can expect when the system launches. Development of the portal is ongoing. The videos below reflect the early design and intended functionality, but certain interface elements, workflows, and features will continue to evolve before production release.
The videos are organized by primary stakeholder group: prosecution, defense, and crime laboratories. While each is tailored to its intended audience, each also highlights unique aspects of the portal. Each video is approximately 10 minutes or less, allowing criminal justice partners to view them at their convenience.
The videos focus primarily on the portal's initial operational workflows, including user permissions, approvals, and the mechanisms for requesting records that are not yet immediately available through direct system integration. While the long-term vision of Texas CLR Connect is to provide on-demand access to crime laboratory records, not every participating laboratory will be fully integrated on day one. Accordingly, the portal includes request functionalities to ensure records can still be requested directly from laboratories as additional integrations are completed. These workflows will provide immediate value at launch while supporting the transition to broader real-time record availability.
The videos are intended as an introduction to the portal and do not cover every feature or workflow that will be available. DPS will host stakeholder townhalls to discuss the portal in greater detail and answer questions. Those sessions will be followed by role-specific training as DPS moves closer to deployment.
NOTE: A common misconception DPS has relayed is that additional laboratory testing and analysis may be requested through Texas CLR Connect. To be clear, Texas CLR Connect is a DISCOVERY portal for the request and transfer of existing laboratory records and will not serve as the mechanism for requesting additional laboratory testing or analysis.
