Nicolas Hughes

Nicolas Hughes is a practicing criminal defense lawyer and forensic consultant in Houston, Texas, representing clients at trial, on appeal, and in post-conviction proceedings. A computer engineer by training, Nicolas merges his love for science and engineering with his practice of law. Nicolas has obtained master’s degrees in digital forensics and pharmacy, honing his formal knowledge in digital evidence, DNA, and serology.  Nicolas is passionate about advancing the law to meet the growing challenges posed by forensic and digital evidence. Most of Nicolas’s casework involves issues involving forensic science, digital evidence, and surveillance technology. Several of Nicolas’s cases have presented issues of first impression in Texan trial and appellate courts. Nicolas is often asked to provide presentations on forensic topics, has developed forensic science training programs for lawyers, has published scientific papers, and is active in the forensic science community.
